05/09/2013 - Roy Swinnerton Memorial Scratch race ends league in Style

It was the final night of the Brooks Cycles Track League on Thursday 5^th September 2013. The weather held out and one of the biggest attendances of the year took part. The highlight of the night was the Roy Swinnerton Memorial 10 Mile Scratch. The pace was the fastest seen all year as the riders battled it out for the £150 of prizes with sponsorship from Swinnerton Cycles. There were a number of breaks throughout the race however none gained more than 50m before with 9 laps to go Adam Duggleby ( Wheelbase Altura) attached and quickly gained 150m on the bunch. This was held unil 3 laps to go when the bunch started to work to bring him back. This was only achieved with 250m to go when Tom Rotherham took the lead and pushed to the line. However as he came in to the home straight Jack Escritt ( Velocity WD40) came alongside and just edged out Tom in the lunge for the line. This was a great end to a race in honour of a great man who did so much for the league and for the sport in general. The B Class award went to Charlie Cox ( Lichfield CCC)

The other A class events were the 10 lap scratch won by Adam Duggleby and the devil which was won by Alastair Rutherford ( Wheelbase Altura)

The B class races were marred by a crash in the opening 8 lap scratch where a touch of wheels saw 5 riders come down and 3 going to hospital for treatment. The league sends their best wishes to them for a full recovery. The restarted event was won by Andrew Scott ( Lyme RC) and the devil was won by Charlie Cox.

The main sprinters event was the Keiren League in which Sean Mayer ( Swinnerton Cycles) showed why he is the best sprinter at the league this year in winning in fine style from Tom Rotherham ( Sportcity Velo)

The youth races saw league winner James Brayford ( Lyme RC ) win the 200m TT and the final scratch race. James Duncalf ( Lyme RC) won the devil in fine style from Alex Coates ( Lyme RC)

The Freewheelers rider finished off what has been a successful season with 64 riders registered. The last night was full of close racing with all the riders showing how they have improved this year in terms of speed and bike handling. At the end of the races the top points scorers were as follows;
