The 2014 Season came to a close at the Brooks Cycles Track League on Thursday 4th September with a total turnout of 90 riders competing . The atmosphere at the Lyme Valley Velodrome great with a good turnout of spectators who witnessed a full program of racing which culminated in the final race of the night, The Roy Swinnerton Memorial 10 Mile Scratch. The pace was high throughout with the A class riders making up their 2 ½ lap disadvantage within 18 laps of the 40 lap race. A crash involving 3 riders neutralised the race before the final 5 ½ laps were contested. In the rush for the line Jack Escritt ( Velocity RT WD40 ) took the victory repeating his win from 12 month ago. Second was Tom Rotherham (Sportcity Velo) with Barney Swinnerton ( Swinnerton Cycles) closely behind in third. The first B Class rider was Joshua Spendow who has impressed greatly in the past month at league and all considering he is riding a hire bike with an 84” gear. In the other A Class events Jacob Booth (Dave Hinde Cycles RT) won the opening 10 lap scratch and Jack Escritt won the course de primes and the Win and out. League winner Joe Swinnerton ( Lyme RC) was absent from the last meeting as he was representing West Midlands in the UK School Games in Manchester.
The sprinters league saw 15 riders compete with Tony Brooks ( Brooks Cycles) a welcome winner of the opening Neil Potter 500m handicap League as he held off a fast finishing bunch of riders which caused the judges a headache to place the top 6. Steve Cronshaw (Brooks Cycles ) came 4th and Sean Mayers ( Swinnerton Cycles) 6th. These two results were important as their points saw them both on 21 and so they share the trophy. Sean also won the Sprint final on the night from Phil Houlton ( Brooks Cycles) and was a member of the winning Team Sprint Team with James Roberts ( North Cheshire Clarion ) and Joshua Dunham ( Team Swift). Sean was a deserved winner of the overall title after some impressive riding through the season.
There was a great group of B rider with 19 riders taking part with Joshua Spendlow taking the devil and the 8 lap scratch. Conner Fearon ( Weaver Valley CC) won the win and out.
The youth races saw 13 riders compete with already crowned winner Caleb Hill ( Lyme RC) winning the devil. The opening block handicap saw Aleshia Mellor ( Newcastle RC 2001) holding on to her advantage to take a great win and the final 10 lap scratch saw Aiden Morley ( Lyme RC) make a surprise attack to hold on to his lead to take a great win.
The Freewheelers saw 28 riders compete and with it being the last night the handicaps were dropped in two races of the four which ensured some very close racing. After the full program was contested the top points scorers were as follows;
