05/06/2008 - Track League

Afternoon showers died away to leave a warm sunny evening for Week 6 of the Brooks Cycles Track League. A bumper attendance of 66 riders turned out for the event with some top class racing seen during a 24 event programme.

In the A Class events there was a battle between the top two riders in the overall league with Kian Emadi closing the gap on leader Steven Hill as he scored 10 points to Steven’s 8. Kian’s best win came in the final 10 mile scratch where we held off fellow youth a rider Robert Lambton.  The www.velodrome.org.uk Keirin League round, saw six riders contest the final after two hard fought heats. Coming around the final banking it was any one from 4 riders for the win before Steven Hill produced his customary final burst to achieve a fine win. 

The B events saw Sportcity Velo rider Luke Boulton, who is now becoming a Newcastle regular , win three events and place second in another. His best race was the last event the 10 mile scratch where he finished just behind the front group of A Class riders.

Helen Clayton won the Ladies six lap scratch event in a close finish with Debbie Capewell.

The Youth events saw a big influx of Eastlands Velo riders making the short journey down from Manchesterto swell the field to 12 riders. Joint top point’s scorers were league leader Sassan Emadi and Joel Partington with seven.

The Freewheelers events saw the biggest field yet with 22 riders competing. Top points scoers in each group were as follows; Group 1 Alex Webb, Group 2 Billy Dean and Group 3 Liam Zwetschnikow and Megan Wynn.
