Week 7 of the Brooks Cycles Newcastle, Staffs Track League again saw a fantastic turnout of riders to compete over the 27 event programme under clear but chilly blue skies.
In the A Class events league leader Declan Byrne extended his lead in the overall league table as he scored 9 points. He scored points in four of the five events with his best performance coming in the Keirin Fianl where he held off former multi National Tandem Sprint Champion Peter Boyd by half a wheel in a tight and exciting finish. Declan?s teammate Robert Lambton also showed good form with two great wins in the opening 10 lap scratch event and the final 10 mile scratch event. Both riders are clearly on form for this weekends round of the National Omnium event at Halesowen.
The B Class events saw a tie for the top point?s scorer with 8 between Martin Shaw and Joe Turner. Martin a former B League winner was back showing the form of last year as he won the 8 lap scratch and the devil. Joe also won two events in the point?s race and the final 10 mile scratch.
The C Class and Ladies Scratch event saw a keenly contested race with track regular and official Mick Stubbs taking the dash for the line from Sarah Byrne and Megan Boyd.
The Youth League events saw 14 riders compete with some great racing witnessed by the appreciative parents and supporters. Alex Taylor took full advantage of the absence of league leader Sam Birchall to win the 400m TT and the 6 lap scratch event for a 6 point haul. In the Block Handicap Luke Mansfield won his first event at the league after moving up from the Freewheelers League.
The Freewheelers League saw 18 riders compete with the top points scorers being as follows;
Group 1 Joel Partington on 8 points
Group 2 Luke Mansfield and Sallie Birchall on 10 points
Group 3 Brandon McMillan on 5 points.
