12/06/2008 - Hill Dominates in Newcastle

Despite threatening skies the Brooks Cycles Track League once again survived bleak weather to provide yet another fantastic evening of racing

In the A Class events Steve Hill showed why he is tipped for a huge future in the sport when he easily outsprinted Kian Emadi and Steve Cronshaw to win the opening 10 Lap Scratch. In the Courses des Primes Hill teased Emadi by letting him take the front before effortlessly sprinting round the Tunstall Wheelers rider to take the first four sprints.  

Hill then sat up allowing another rising star Robert Lambton (Newport CC) to go on the attack, taking the next six laps

In the Brooks Cycles Handicap League, Debbie Capewell (Brooks Cycles/Velodrome.org.uk) made it two in a row when she took advantage of a healthy handicap to win by a considerable margin from Matthew Rotherham and Paul Askey

This year the B Class events have been blessed with an influx of Juniors who travel down each week from Manchester to light up the racing. Robert Crampton and Matthew Rotherham were the stars, dominating the proceedings

In the final event of the evening, the 10 Mile Scratch, the A Class riders set themselves an ambitious target of a three lap handicap on the B's. This decision proved to be the making of the race, as the A's imploded and only managed to lap the B Class riders twice, allowing Rob Crampton to take the overall victory. In recent years only the vastly experienced Graham Truelove of Lichfield CCC has managed to beat the A Class from within the B's, so this underlines the achievement

The Freewheelers events saw 20 riders competing. Stars are the night, with multiple wins were as follows; Group 1 Alex Webb, Group 2 Lucy Green and Group 3 Liam Zwetschnikow
