13th May 2010: Week Two of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Track League saw a great turnout of riders who provided a very entertaining night of racing. Again the last race of the night, the 10 mile scratch was contested under the floodlights which only increased the atmosphere as the riders finished in a time of 21 minutes 45 seconds.
The winner of the A Class race was Matthew Rotherham of Sportcity Velo who was the star rider on the night as he also won the opening 8 lap scratch and the first round of the Keirin League. In this event Matthew won from up and coming Barney Swinnerton, Lyme RC and Adrian Adgar of Dinnington RC. The other A Class event was the point?s race with Oliver Davies taking the victory from Adrian Adgar.
The B Class events saw an even spread of the points with eight riders scoring. Phil Houlton of Newcastle RC 2001 took the first race victory in the 8 Lap Scratch followed by 14 year old Sam Birchall of Lyme RC taking the devil. The course de primes saw Neil Cummins score consistently to take the victory and then in the 10 mile scratch another youth rider Joe Evans take a well deserved win.
The Youth events saw 17 riders compete in a four race series. Again all the riders displayed great bike skills with Louis Preston, Lyme RC the top points scorer with seven. His total included a win in the first event the 200m time trail as he recorded a time of 13.09 seconds. Other wins came from Matthew Rotherham, Eastlands Velo in the block handicap, Joe Evans in the devil and a fantastic ride by first year rider Sean Mayer to take the 6 lap scratch.
In the Freewheelers League there was a turnout of 17 riders which was up on the first week. The top point?s scorers were in each league as follows:
